The Carpet of Life

Part of "The Carpet of Life" is republished in the artist book "In love with planets - thrown over the edge" by Dominique Lämmli. First edition © Verlag Niggli Verlag AG, Sulgen / Zürich. "The Carpet of Life" was first published in Gordon Shrigley, ed.: How Drawing Changed the World, London: marmalade 2004, www.filmmarmalade.co.uk Following the republished text:

Like stepping stones laid in moss in a Japanese garden, which slow the spectator's pace and satisfy the need for calm, drawn stories invite us to emotionally relax and be mentally active. We can contemplate what we see, leaving the rigid social hierarchies of the everyday world behind us. In our imagination, we can play out different possibilities that the narrative could take. We are offered an intensive world that lies open for discovery, and which allows us to rethink our own experiences. Such reconsideration can alter our stance and lead to new perspectives.
